Joy Everest established her Natural
Therapies Clinic in the Mt Gambier District ten years ago, where she was
well known as being dedicated to her practice with people and animals. Her
family relocated to the township of WISTOW in the Adelaide Hills in 2006
where she now travels to treat pets, horses and other farmyard animals.

Joy
is one of the few people in Australia who offers Iridology for Pets.
She finds looking into the eye of a horse
can tell her its past nutritional status, possibly leg or joint problems
and the location of current aches and pains. This information is
often crucial to the health and wellbeing of the animal, especially if its
background is unknown.

The family interest in dressage has seen
many horses rehabilitated, often culminating in wins and places at an
elite level in the South Australian Dressage Scene. In 2000 two
horses arrived at the Pony Club Nationals, one an existing client and the
other a Victorian horse which needed treatment for travel related
problems. They each won their dressage on consecutive days. |

Joy’s background as a horse breeder, horse competitor, author and dressage
judge has given her a wealth of knowledge to draw from. She has had a long
term association with Pony Clubs where she instructed, judged and was
invited to give talks on the Benefits of Natural Therapies for Horse &
Rider. |

Joy’s animal rearing experience extends from raising chickens with the
help of a clucky chook with protective wings, breeding Siamese cats,
bucket rearing calves and bottle feeding orphan lambs, delivering lambs
from stressed ewes, delivering foals in the moonlight at 3am, to
rehabilitating ponies and horses – too numerous to mention. Her farm
was also a home for abandoned goats and ducks. |
|

Using cabbage leaves and herbal mixtures for
mastitis, Matilda a ewe who had lost her lamb,
made a full recovery. |
|
One time a wild fledgling 3-4cm tall decided
the safest place was just behind the car wheel in the driveway. After a
lot of thought I decided to make it an ice-cream container nest in the
closest tree (I was worried the neighbourhood cats would find him) and
gently gave it a few drops of emergency essence on the skin.
Following its ‘leaving the nest’ instincts it would jump out of the
nest and shelter in the bushes. Each time I came home it would hop
onto my finger and I would return it to its nest. The mother bird
continually fed the fledgling, amid raucous squawking and remonstrations
as to how dangerous these ‘people’ were. The baby bird would hide under an
orange tree where the essential oils had an intoxicating effect, but it
always managed to hop back on my finger for the lift up to its improvised
nest. Eventually it learned to fly from branch to branch and after 3
weeks of distressed squawking from mum, it passed all the ‘flying lessons’
and they flew off together. |
